On Thursday night we will be voting on Ordinance 848, which would authorize the County Board to approve Special Use Permits and to change the requirements for development of wind farms to a County Board Special Use Permit and a rezoning to the new Wind Farm Overlay District. If you have any thoughts or opinions feel free to discuss.

If the city of Champaign gets a 2.5 mile buffer zone. We should all be privy to the same. I think wind farms are a technology whose time has not come yet. When it costs .10/kwatt to produce enery with wind and solar. And .3/kwatt to produce it with coal. How can we justify billions of tax payer dollars as subsidies, tax free loans etc.? This is a project that could/would not happen if taxpayers weren't footing the bill. But back to 848, My tax assesment will drop dramactially once a wind mill is placed near my home. NO ONE wants to live in the middle of a power plant! We will never be able to sell our house, so our assessment will have to reflect that. So the "wind fall" of tax revenue "generated" (all puns intented) is a wash, at best.
